Jury: He did it. Abshire murder trial
Eric Abshire's older brother, Jesse, who moved in with Eric and Justine during the couple's engagement, testified that in spite of the cramped quarters in the tiny cinderblock house the trio was sharing, his relationship with his sister-in-law was positive. "She treated me great," he said emphatically.
And Eric himself has long maintained that he loved Justine and "lost everything" the night she died. Courtwatchers hoping to hear Abshire's own account of the fateful night were disappointed, as the defense team chose not to put him on the stand. However, back in August 2008 he sat down with the Hook to recount the evening of November 2, 2006.
Abshire said he'd visited his ailing mother at Martha Jefferson Hospital and then returned home after 7pm, soon after Justine arrived home from the Thursday evening class she took for her UVA master's degree program. After time at home with his wife, he received a call from the hospital alerting him that his mother's condition was worsening, so he drove from the couple's house on Fredericksburg Road to the old Martha Jefferson Hospital in downtown Charlottesville, where he remained until around 11:30pm.
911 Call Released from Crash that Prompted Initial Toyota/Lexus ...
In a 911 call, a California Highway Patrol officer and three relatives can be heard telling each other to hold on and pray before their car veered off the highway, drove over an embankment, flipped and exploded into flames killing all four inside the car.
Mark Saylor, 45, his wife Cleofe, 45, their daughter Mahala, 13 and brother-in-law Chris Lastrella, 38, died in the crash on Highway 125.
Warning: This audio is graphic and shocking. Toyota said that it has begun mailing letters to owners of certain Toyota and Lexus models regarding the potential for an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat to interfere with the accelerator pedal and cause it to become stuck. The letter, in compliance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and sent in the wake of a Santee crash that killed an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer and three family members, also confirms that no defect exists in vehicles in which the driver's floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured.

The thief evidently jumped in the car and took it as the man was cleaning the car's floor mats, police said. But the car was found a few minutes later at about 8:45 pm after it had crashed into some brush at Warren Avenue and 17th Street. The Hook - Jan 01, 1970
The 911 call was clocked at 1:57am, 38 minutes after Justine's alleged distress call to her husband, and, by Abshire's own account, a full 13 to 18 minutes after he'd reached the scene. The fact that the open-trunked Mustang started right up for
