Jim Dwyer; A New Man Who Has Been Here Before
Now, following gastric bypass surgery, Dwyer has a new lease on life and a slimmer version of the same man is headed back into politics – running for the contested District 6 Council seat.
One word of warning, though, those who knew the old Jim Dwyer might well not recognize him at all when he makes the campaign rounds.
“I get that all the time,” he said. “People who have known me all my life don’t recognize me anymore. I have to carry a picture of myself from before that I pull out and show to everyone. More than a few people that I’ve known for decades have walked right past me on the street as if I’m a stranger. They don’t place me until they hear my voice.”
While not being known by your friends might be troubling to some, Dwyer, 47, is reveling in it, because his dramatic weight loss has literally saved his life. His doctor even told him that he was nearing a heart attack before the operation, and would have most likely died by the end of 2009 had he not changed his life around.
GM provides free seat belt extenders!
A few months back we got a new car and being the big guy that I am the seat belt doesn’t fit. For the most part, I don’t bother with the seat belt when it doesn’t fit as most cops are decent enough to let me go without a ticket when I show them it legitimately doesn’t fit. For my part, I really would rather wear the seat beat. If for any other reason than not giving cops a reason to pull me over and bust my chops.
Over the summer, I hit a checkpoint by the local cops. The constable was nice enough to let me go but told me to get an extender. Figuring that one from the dealer would be ridiculously expensive as the dealer wanted $80 for a 6″ extension on one of my previous cars. I went online and found a universal seat belt extender from Amazon, for $15 how could I go wrong? It bolted on to the post and would be hidden from view, no big deal. I took the car for inspection and asked the mechanic to throw it on. He tried but said there will be wires on the floor if he installed the bolt on extender. Newer cars and their computerized BS. The only reason the seat belt would need a wire is for that stupid bell that reminds you to put on the belt. So knowing myself, I’d rip the wire out with my feet in no time I told him not to worry about it. He offered to call his GM dealer and find out a price....

“You get on an airplane at that weight and you have to ask for a seatbelt extender or buy two seats. When I would fly, I was always so anxious about whether the plane would be crowded; whether someone would be sitting next to me.

I pulled and pulled at the seatbelt waiting to hear the click and it just wasn't coming, so I had to ask the attendant for an extension. “I felt like c**p, to have to do that in front of my husband and kids.” But there was one more shock before Pauline

One very handy trick which Merc could have picked up from BMW though is seatbelt extenders. It's basically a little plastic arm which the 3-Series Coupé has that pushes the seatbelt forward making it easier to reach. In the C-Class Coupé you have to
