Volkswagen prekvapil v roku 2002 viacerými zaujímavými modelmi. Špecifická a najsilnejšia výkonová trieda Passat bola vybavená atmosférickým motorom s obsahom 3999 cm3 spolu s manuálnou šesťstupňovou alebo automatickou päťstupňovou prevodovkou. Od bežného modelu ho rozoznáte len označením W8 na prednej maske, dvoma zdvojenými koncovkami výfuku a samozrejme prekvapujúcim zvukom a výkonom - 202kW/275 koní. Zrýchlenie na 100 je za úctyhodných 6,5 sekúnd. Rýchlosť je obmedzená na 250, ale motor povolí až 285 po úprave riadiacej jednotky (299 koní), pričom tachometer končí na magických 300.

Passat W8 je vybavený stálym pohonom 4x4 - systém Torsen . V kombinácii s manuálnou prevodovkou sa na spojkový pedál prenáša až 370 Nm krútiaceho momentu, čo je pomerne vysoká hodnota. Pre pohodlnú jazdu odporúčam automat a manuál pre náročných, na spotrebu nehľadiacich jazdcov. Brzdy sú dimenzované skutočne nadštandardne, predné kotúče ATE majú priemer až 334 milimetrov. Pri výmene kotúčov si ale pekne priplatíte - náhrada ATE je len na objednávku od Brembo alebo Zimmermann. Pri brzdových platničkách je možné využiť rôzne značky od ATE, Ferodo, ECS a podobne.

DIY digital speedometer, RPM tachometer & temperature display

4 Months before, I treid to build a digital tachometer & speedometer using seven segment display, but I failed to do it the right way. The circuits I used before were too crowded with ICs & other components. Then I managed to build the LED tachomter . Later, I got a stepper motor & used it as a speed sensor to build the LED speedometer successfully, too. The ICL7107 came to my mind. A simple, old yet reliable analog to digital converter used in digital voltmeter circuits. VOLTMETER? Why not to build a voltmeter, then calibrating it to get the car speed from my stepper motor? & get the RPM from my LM2917 voltage output? What about adding a digital thermometer using the LM35 temperature sensor? From the stepper motor I mounted to my car's transmission in the previous post. The current generated directly from a stepper motor is AC (alternating current)....

NI LabVIEW Gets RPM Data From Lathe Tachometer Using Panel ...

One of our educational customers has a small lathe in their lab that is used for various experiments involving manufacturing and vibration. The lab manager wanted to add a tachometer readout to the lathe that could interface with the NI LabVIEW™ data acquisition used in the lab, but did not want the tachometer to always require the use of a computer. A Red Lion® Controls CUB5 series counter turned out to be an ideal solution. The CUB5 counter has a rate function that is used with a TTL (0-5V) signal from an optical sensor on the lathe spindle to produce a tachometer readout in RPM.

The panel meter is located on the lathe with an RS-485 cable that can be plugged into the computer so that spindle speed can be read into LabVIEW programs.

Incorporating speed data allows vibration data in the frequency domain to be correlated to the running speed of the machine. This can be especially useful for diagnosing vibration issues, or in this case for teaching about vibration testing.
